Vicars Golf Club member Rachel Turner is celebrating a top-two finish at a national competition.

Rachel has gone from a golfing beginner to an eight handicapper in less than six years.

Last year Rachel entered the Vicars Cross Golf Medal which entitled her to enter the North West Regional Final, held at Eaton Golf Club.

From a field of 115, only the top 10 would qualify for the England Golf Grand Medal Final – but Rachel scored an incredible 83-9=74 to secure third place and a safe passage through.

A total of 700 golfers played in regional finals across the country, with just 60 going through to the Grand Medal Final at Northamptonshire County Golf Club.

Rachel set a target of finishing in the top 10 but was thrilled to score 83-9=74 and come second overall. The winner scored 99-26=73.

She said: “The day was fantastic – one of the biggest golfing events I have been in.

“I felt very nervous but having the support of my family, and my mum Pauline as my caddie, settled me down.

“The course was in immaculate condition and the greens were like lightning.”
