EUROPEAN Tour player Gary Houston shared first prize in the 28th Chester Golf Club Pro-Am Tournament with tour hopeful Gary Donnison.

In all, 37 teams took part in the competition, each with a PGA professional from the Northern Region.

Houston and Donnison each shot 66, five shots under-par for the city course.

Former Carden Park pro Houston, of Flint Mountain, is a well known European Tour player, who has earned $186,460 this year and is ranked 128th, ahead of the likes of Ian Woosnam, Jesper Parnevik and José María Olazábal.

Donnison, currently the professional at Mobberley, hopes to get his card at the end of this season.

Runners-up with a score of 67 were M Marsh, S Edwards and D Shacklady.

The Pro-Am team event was won by the Bates family. Local rugby player Robin, with brother Martin and son-in-law Martin Godwin, with considerable help from professional Richard Bean, returned a net score of 126, 16 shots under-par.

Second with 15 under-par were the team sponsored by WG Brett Car Sales, who had pro S Edwards join B Brett, M Whiting and L Parry.

Graham Maly, PGA regional secretary, congratulated the club on staging another excellent competition and for their continued commitment to professional golf within the region.
