EATON Golf Club staged the Moore Trophy event, which was contested by clubs from across the Chester area.

The start of the competition was delayed by two and a half hours due to fog.

Delamere Golf Club recorded a score of 294 to win the title. All five of their players had gross scores in the 70s, the best being 72 by John Hudson. Playing off the black tees and with no run at all on the course, it was a great effort.

Also worthy of note was a score of 72 by Martin Betts of Vicars Cross which helped his team to secure second place overall.

There was no repeat success for host club Eaton but they still put in a credible effort, with their two teams finishing third and fourth.

Portal Premier finished fifth, Frodsham came sixth, Helsby were seventh and Upton eighth.

Home fans were cheered by the outstanding round of the day from Eaton player Simon Dangar, who secured the lowest gross prize with a magnificent 71.

Portal Pemier finished fifth, Frodsham came sixth, Helsby were seventh and Upton eighth.
