THE first match of new Helsby Golf Club captain Peter Hancock’s reign ended on a losing note.
He reached the final of the club’s winter league and, with John Dewsbury, took on Bob Twissell and Dave Owens for the Cec Riley Trophy.
Owens and Twissell took an early three-hole lead after four holes, but their opponents fought back to level the game at the eighth. After four halved holes, both Hancock and Dewsbury found trouble off the tee and the door was opened with Twissell getting a four.
Further errors at the 14th meant that Owens and Twissell were back in the driving seat and ran out winners 2&1.
