A CHESTER golf society has raised £19,126 for the Clatterbridge Centre of Oncology following a special golf day at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club.

The Piper Golf Society held The Tony Owens Memorial Golf Day in honour of one of its former members who died from a brain tumour in November of last year.

Tony’s family, society members and a group of Barclays employees all played a big part in the event.

Tony’s brother Bill said: “We had a fantastic day and raised a phenomenal amount of money.

“Barclays Bank were fantastic in making a substantial contribution as part of their ‘pound for pound’ scheme, and my brother Glyn was also able to get the help of Chester Audi.

“We couldn’t have done it without the help of Upton-by-Chester Golf Club and the work of those raising the profile of the event. It was a fitting tribute.”

Chester Golf Club aces were celebrated as the winners of this season’s men’s major competitions received their trophies from captain Norman Green.

Among the winners were club champion Callum Roberts, KO Foursomes kings and father and son Aron and Luke Faulkner, and Mond Cup victor David Weir.
