MEMBERS of the City of Chester Triathlon Club clinched individual gold prizes and a team title at Forest Park.

The lapped course at Birchwood became increasingly churned up to provide challenging conditions as the athletes slogged through clinging mud that became calf deep in places.

In the 7.7k ladies race, Gill Mead and Linda Worrall turned in excellent performances to grab the first LV40 and LV50 prizes in 37 minutes and 33 seconds, and 39:37 respectively. With Clare Pritchard (44:56) they also claimed second Lady Vet team prize. Ellie Debenham was first lady for the club home in a splendid time of 36:53, followed by Jill Hulme (40:58), Janet Taylor (45:25) and Jayne Neave (45:29).

Chris Morgan claimed first Vet 55 prize in the 9.6k men’s race with a time of 46:56, while Kenny Begley was first home for Chester Tri in 41:58.

Helsby Running Club’s Steph Charman ended up with a county medal for finishing first in the V55 class. She was 39th overall in the ladies race in 50:29.

Steph was joined by Helsby team-mates Rachel Lambert (31st in 42:37) and Rachel Arnold (33rd in 44:00, 6th V45).

Adair Broughton led Helsby’s men home, finishing 42nd in 44:15 ahead of team-mate Andy Smith (90th in 52:18, 17th V45).

For Tattenhall Runners, Simon Ellis crossed the line in 41:28 to claim 22nd place in the men’s race and seventh in the V40 section. Tattenhall’s Mike Whiteside was 66th – and the second V60 runner – in a time of 47:46.
