ATHLETICS: GRAHAM Jenkins headed West Cheshire AC's charge at his club's home race.

Graham, returning from an injury, was the first purple-vested finisher in a record field of 325 in the Sutton Six 10k Road Race at Guilden Sutton.

Graham posted a time of 36 minutes three seconds to secure 16th position, just ahead of Andrew Clague, 24th in 36:51. Russell Kirk was West Cheshire's third man home, posting 38:05.

Matthew Broad secured the first Under 20 men's prize after clocking 38:13 for 43rd position overall.

Chris Essex-Crosby was another West Cheshire AC member returning from injury. He recorded a time of 39:25 for 67th place.

Ian Warren completed the route with a time of 39:33 for 70th, in front of Richard Batterham (110th in 42:03) and Stephen Williams (127th in 43:26).

Laura O'Marah was West Cheshire's first lady to finish the fast and flat course, posting 44:53 for 148th place overall.

Clive Sykes completed the race in 45:27 for 163rd place, beating Frances Mudway (195th in 47:35) and Lisa Davies (196th in 47:45).

Stephen Armstrong completed the route with a time of 48:38 for 216th position, clear of Eleanor Robinson (239th in 50:15).

Michael Halman, of Wilmslow Running Club, won the race title in 32:35, from second-placed Alan Barnes in 32:51 and third-placed Andrew Lamont (Macclesfield Harriers) in 34:01.

Ellesmere Port-based Steve Crowe secured ninth in a pleasing time of 35 minutes, beating Ellesmere Port Running Club colleague Ian Cooper (14th in 35:53).

Anne Farmer, of Macclesfield Harriers, won the ladies race with a time of 37:54.

Ellesmere Port Running Club's Nicky Bird finished fourth lady in a time of 38:43, and collected the winning ladies shield for the Cheshire Grand Prix Series of races.

Mike Lyness, an U15 member of West Cheshire AC, sprinted home for success in the Sutton Six Fun Run. He recorded a winning time of nine minutes seven seconds, to edge ahead of club colleague James Ellis in 9:11. nFixtures this weekend include tomorrow's North of England AA Road Relay Championships at Blackpool and the first round of the North Wales Cross-Country League at Colwyn Bay.

West Cheshire AC will be represented by an U15 girls team at the Young Athletes Road Relays, being held at Sefton Park, Liverpool, on Sunday (12.30pm start).

And West Cheshire AC will be helping to organise the Chester Corporate Cup Race from Chester Racecourse on Sunday morning.

The Flintshire 10k gets under way from Mold on Sunday (noon), on the same day as the Sandstone Trail Race, from Duckington (10am) and from Beeston Castle (11am).

The Macclesfield Half Marathon comes under starter's orders on Sunday.
