GOLDEN Star ABC is wishing 'bon voyage' to a club stalwart.

Former head coach Joey Hennessy has been involved in the Ellesmere Port club for more than 40 years, but he emigrates next week to begin a new life abroad.

Current Golden Star head coach Carl Teasdale is arranging a farewell get-together for Joey at the Phoenix Social Club, Cromwell Road, on Friday evening - and anyone who was coached by the veteran trainer is welcome to attend.

Carl said: 'We reckon Joey was involved with the club for 46 years and, even though he retired as head coach a few years ago, he stays in touch with everyone and follows the progress of the lads in the gym.

'He must have coached hundreds of boxers in the Port down the years and the least he deserves is a good send-off.'

Joey, 73, boxed in the army for several years and became involved in the Golden Star club when he moved from Liverpool to Ellesmere Port. He linked up with Golden Star founder Billy Hickman and the club grew and grew.

* Anyone wishing to say farewell to Joey can do so by turning up at the Phoenix Social Club on Friday, any time between 7pm and 8pm. For further information contact Carl Teas-dale on 07901 814582.
