ROWING: Grosvenor Rowing Club ranked alongside some of the country's strongest clubs after some impressive performances at Henley on Thames.

Sixteen senior rowers and three coxes travelled to take part in the Henley Fours and Eights Head event on Saturday.

Although no wins were recorded, the Chester club showed it can compete with the best in British rowing including squads from Henley, Windsor and Eton, and universities in Oxford and London.

In the men's senior IV coxed-four category, Grosvenor B completed the gruelling 3km course in 11:55 and crossed the finishing line in fifth position out of 18 crews.

The Grosvenor A team recorded a time of 12:37 to finish 14th.

The two crews combined to form a men's senior IV coxed eight later that day. With a time of 11:52, they finished fifth out of nine.

In the women's senior II category, a Grosvenor coxed eight came third out of four crews, with a time of 12:38.

With respectable Henley results under their belts, the squads are optimistic of their chances at the next event of the season - the Runcorn Spring Head on Saturday, March 4.
