SCHOOLGIRLS from all over the county went head to head in Chester to compete in the Cheshire round of a national mini-hockey tournament.

The competition, organised for the under 11s age group, was held at the Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton.

Chester's Queen's School finished fourth overall with teams from The King's School, Deeside Ramblers and Chester Hockey Club also competing.

The eventual winners were St Bedes of Manchester, who will now represent Cheshire in the Northern finals alongside Stockport Grammar Junior School who also qualified.

Tournament organiser and head of PE at Queen's lower school, Carole Tottey, said: 'Schools and clubs came from all over the county for this all-girl tournament which we organise every year for the Cheshire Hockey Association.

'It's all about bringing the level of hockey on in girls of that age. It was a great morning and we had lots of support.'
