FORD star Geoff Brassington is officially the number-one billiards player in town.

He defeated Richard Whittle from United Services Club A to win Widnes & District League's Individual Championship.

The winner, who is from Frodsham, pulled away from his opponent in what had been a close game at Widnes Bowling Club to triumph by about 100 points.

Brassington had a break of 60 while Whittle chipped in with a 49 and 44 as the tie remained finely balance until the Motorman's decisive charge in the last 20 minutes.

This caps an excellent season for Brassington, who has helped his Cronton-based team finish third in the table while racking up the best break in the league this season with his effort of 84.

Meanwhile, Widnes Cricket Club have carried off this season's Team KO.

They defeated a Farnworth A side who could only pull back just under half of their 90-point deficit on handicap at Simms Cross Institute.
