FISHING: THE Lobol AC had a good time on Sunday when fishing from the River Weaver at Hulse's Island, with a 1-2-8 perch plus roach giving Geoff Selby first place with 11-11-0, ahead of Kevin Cooke on 9-15-0 and Peter Cooke with roach for 9-8-0, writes BRIAN ROBERTS.

Chris King took top spot in Saturday's Rivacre AC match on the Carterhouse length of the Sankey-St Helen's canal with a catch of all bream up to 2-8-0, giving him 7-10-0, while Ciggy Butler had roach for 7-4-0 and Dave Grimes 3-11-0.

Caldy AS fished their final match of the year on Sunday at the Shropshire Union canal, Tattenhall, with Rob Winstanley the clear winner, taking a 1-4-0 perch among his 4-14-0 total. Brian Ripon had a 1-7-0 roach and Joe Piercey took 12-0 of roach.

The Neston Match-Anglers AC completed their fixtures on the Oasis pool at the Hampton Springs Fishery on Sunday with Barry Davies top with 14-9-0 of carp and chub while Tommy Hardy had 10-10-8 of carp and Les Hall 7-13-0 carp and tench.

The Lake Hill Fishery on the Llandegla moors proved a popular venue last week with Paul Collins of Ellesmere Port luring a 6-10-0 rainbow trout to a yellow lure and Neston's Tom Matthews coaxing rainbows of 4-0-0 and 3-0-0 to a worm.

Ellesmere Port members swept the board in Sunday's match on the Manley Springs Fishery with Mark Davies taking bream and tench for 6-0-0 while John Bristow had similar for 5-12-0 and Billy Bristow 4-12-0.

Simon Bowers, Ellesmere Port, had a rod-bending session last week on the Harthill Fishery near Broxton, taking 5-0-0 and 3-8-0 tench while adding 42-0-0 of roach, rudd and tench.

Mike Pearson won the day in the Ellesmere Port British Legion AC match on the River Weaver on Sunday at Winsford with a 2-0-0 chub boosting his roach catch up to 3-10-0, edging out John Lyth with a 3-8-0 roach and gudgeon mix and Andy Fletcher with 2-10-0 of bits.
