MARTIAL ARTS: A TEENAGE martial arts star is being tipped for greatness after being named student of the year at his club in Ellesmere Port.
Josh Wonderley, 14, received the accolade from instructor Brian Nelson who has been impressed with his efforts since joining the Lau Gar School of Kung Fu last year.
Mr Nelson is confident Josh has the ability to go far in the sport after awarding the prize to his young fighter for displaying talent, discipline and a good attitude.
He said: 'When Josh first joined I could tell straight away that he was going to go very far in martial arts.
'He turns out every week and has shown great dedication.
'Last year he finished third in his first ever tournament, where he was up against competitors as old as 16. I'm sure this year he can take the next step.'
The Whitby High pupil is scheduled to compete at the Irish Open next month and will also be up against fighters from across the borough during a tournament at Stanney Sports Centre on May 14.
Although Josh is a keen martial arts fighter, his first love is football and he still harbours hopes of a career in the sport having been part of Wrexham FC's School of Excellence for the last three years.
