NORTHWICH Rowing Club oarsmen and women of all ages worked together to raise £3,000 to be shared between the cost of a new women's racing eight and St Luke's Hospice.

They took part in a 24-hour ergometer challenge at the clubhouse on Friday and Saturday. Kevin Jump and Claire Briegel got things started and by the finish some 326.4 kilometres had been covered.

Northwich raised further funds for St Luke's from a beer night which was supported by Steve Coppoch and his company, which offers short-term insurance cover.

With further fundraising events planned Northwich and aim to raise £4,500 for St Luke's, which is the cost of running the hospice for one day.

Meanwhile, on the water Northwich's women's squad will contest the Head of the River Race on the Thames Tideway on Saturday.
