MIKE Fryer set the standard in a generally-satisfactory final round for Halton & Frod-sham Harriers at the National Young Athletes League.

Most club members were first-time competitors in a higher age group at Wigan's Robin Park Arena.

Fryer won the U15s high jump with yet another PB - his 1.45 metres also nailing the field-athlete-of-the-match award.

Amy Wright, Sarah Black-hall and Jenny Hill were good scorers for the U13s girls.

Sarah was eighth in the A 200m with 26.0 secs and B stringer Jenny sixth in 25.2.

Jenny had an 800m time of 3:16.0 for fifth A and Sarah clocked 3:22.4 for fourth B points while throwing 3.58m for seventh in the shot.

Amy took eighth at 75m (12.4) while a 3.16m A long jump earned sixth as Jenny's 2.96m secured fifth B points.

U15s athlete Rachel Green completed the 200m in a fourth-placed 30.3.

Aoife Haymer (third, B) and Rachel (sixth, A) clocked identical 100m times of 14.6.

The former ran a well-judged 800m for fifth A points in 2:50.0.

Aoife was also sixth in the A javelin (9.59) while Rachel's 4.75m shot likewise gained sixth A points.

Connor Watson made an impressive club debut for the U13 boys - finishing third at 100m (15.3) and 200m (33.5).

Robert McGeachie was the A-scoring 200m runner with a sixth-placed 32.4.

More at home at middle distance, he had a splendid second over 800m (2: 41.0).

Sam Humphries was third-placed shot putter with 5.42m.

David Tomalin had PBs of 13.8 secs over 100m and 4.05 metres in the long jump. He was third in the 80m hurdles (16.2s).

David Milne's 14.0 brought him third 100m B points.

Mike Fryer added to his high-jump exploits with more PBs - sixth at 200m in 28.6s and 5:27.9 over 1,500m for fourth.

The next competition is Saturday's third round of the Cheshire Track and Field League at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port (1pm).
