GYMNASTICS: BETH Tweddle's preparations for next year's Olympic Games continued when she finished third on the uneven bars in the Massilia Cup in Marseilles on Sunday.

The Bunbury gymnast was among a British squad of four which competed in team, individual, all-around and apparatus events.

France's Émilie Lepennec defeated Tweddle and her fellow world championship medallist Holly Vise, of America, to take the bars title to the delight of the home crowd.

She scored a 9.625 for her routine, while Vise - silver medallist at the worlds - was second with 9.575.

Beth stepped up her preparations for Athens with a score of 9.450, which was enough to secure third position and keep her good run of form going.

Nicola Willis and Katy Lennon, who missed the World Championships in Anaheim because of injuries, were back in competition while Amy Dodswell was the fourth member of the British team.
