MANCHESTER Metropolitan University Cheshire have sealed their second title of the season.

The ladies hockey first team clinched their championship after being awarded a win against Chester, who could not field a team.

The women's basketball team kept up their 100% record as they demolished Manchester Met 61-25.

The side pulled away in the second quarter with excellent defence from Lucy McKeown and fast breaks from Kate Cram and Jo Richards.

The men's hockey team now need a draw in their last game to land the league title after they thrashed Hull 12-1 with hat-tricks from Simone Shorter and John Wood the highlight.

The men's rugby union first team were beaten 13-12 by Salford, with tries from Nick Pearson and Cesaire Stephens, and a Richard Maguire conversion. The seconds lost 34-10 to Manchester University.

The men's football first team were defeated 2-1 by Edge Hill, despite Carl Smith's opener. Goalkeeper Mark Warburton saved a last minute penalty.

The seconds remain unbeaten and go joint-top after overcoming Edge Hill 2-1.

The thirds had their championship hopes dashed as they lost out 5-1 at Liverpool, their only goal coming from Carl Mallett.

The fourths were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool Hope, while the fifths can claim the title if they defeat Edge Hill in their next game thanks to a resounding 10-0 victory over Chester.

The ladies football first team beat Leeds 2-0, while the seconds lost out 4-1 to Liverpool John Moores.

The netball club is still looking for a victory as the firsts lost 46-42 against Manchester, and the seconds lost 77-11 against Northumbria.

Men's and women's volleyball sides both lost 3-0 against Sheffield Hallam and Manchester respectively.

The badminton first team was defeated 8-0 by Central Lancs while the men's tennis outfit lost 8-2 to Manchester.
