Whitby Town 0Vauxhall Motors 5
LEE Furlong plundered four goals to steer Motors safely into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Following a drab first half, the visitors cut loose after the break and ran out comfortable winners over their UniBond Premier hosts.
Furlong had squandered Motors’ best chance after just three minutes.
He went close again on the half-hour mark when his deflected shot went wide of Whitby keeper Tom Woodhead’s upright.
Just before the break, Vauxhall’s Josh Wilson was stretchered off following a reckless challenge from Liam Gidea, who was fortunate to escape without being shown a red card.
The away side took the lead three minutes into the second half when substitute Jordan Holmes swung over a cross for the unmarked Furlong to head home from six yards. Then Holmes himself headed wide three minutes later.
Furlong netted his second 20 minutes from time following some neat play with Keith Smith.
A minute later, Motors made the game safe when Chris Noone hammered in the third from Karl Noon’s lay-off.
Furlong, who is now in his third spell with Motors, completed his hat-trick nine minutes from time when Ryan Wade’s cross found him unmarked and he calmly slotted the ball home.
Just three minutes later, the same player completed the rout with his fourth – and Motors’ fifth – when he lobbed Woodhead.
