VAUXHALL will open and close their Blue Square North season at Rivacre Park with games against Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, August 8 and Telford United on Saturday, April 24.

Carl Macauley’s Motormen will make their first visit to Ilkeston Town on September 12 at the New Manor Ground, while near neighbours Northwich Victoria come to Rivacre on Boxing Day before Motors make the short hop there on New Year’s Day.

And the memories will come flooding back when Motors go to Eastwood Town’s Coronation Park on Saturday, February 6, the ground where they won promotion to the UniBond League Premier Division during their rise through the leagues.

Meanwhile the new campaign will see full-back Chris Lane turn out for the Motormen.

The 30-year-old has signed from Blue Square Premier side Altrincham to replace Rob Marsh-Evans.

Lane has previous played more than 150 games for Southport in two spells at the club and has also appeared for Leigh RMI, Morecambe and Hereford.

Tom Field has permanently signed for Telford United, bidding farewell to Motors for the second time after returning last season from Leigh Genesis.

The Motormen are also being forced to deal with the withdrawal of ground sponsor Motassist due to the global economic crisis.

“It was a reflection of how the recession has hit them, as they are laying people off,” said Motors chairman Alan Bartlam. But it leaves the door open for another company to put their name to the ground.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring Rivacre Park can call 07909646146.

Motors welcome Blackburn Rovers to Rivacre Park next Tuesday evening, kick off at 7pm. Admission is £5 adults, £3 concessions and under 16s £1.

Vauxhall Motors Youth will travel to face Ashton Town Youth in Ashton in Makerfield in the FA Youth Cup in the week commencing Monday, September 21. The winners will be at home in the second qualifying round to either Altrincham or Daisy Hill, or Cammell Laird or Northwich Victoria.
