Stafford Rangers 3Vauxhall Motors 1

GREAT escape experts Vauxhall saw their hopes of playing Blue Square North football next season all but disappear on Saturday as a third consecutive defeat virtually guaranteed their relegation.

Missing centre backs Rory Winters and Tom Hannigan through injury, in the first minute Motors’ defence was caught flat-footed as Rangers’ Danny Glover turned and shot past James Coates.

Minutes later the Motormen levelled, skipper Josh Wilson felled in the area, Brian Moogan dispatching the resulting penalty.

But that simply spurred on Motors’ hosts. They restored their lead in the 17th minute through Grant Goodhead and secured the victory eight minutes before half-time, Dominic Merella placing the ball in the net from 10 yards.

Vauxhall: Coates, Owens, Dames, Lane, Moogan, Egerton, Noone (Furlong 60), Brown, J Macualey (Noon 60), Wilson, Grice (Smith 69). Subs: Wright, Mustafa.
