Vauxhall Motors 1 Hyde United 0

ONCE more leading by example, Motors skipper Josh Wilson scored the only goal of the game to lift his side off the bottom of the Blue Square North table.

Motors have struggled to get results against fellow strugglers in Blue Square North, but Carl Macauley’s men found the key at home to Hyde and thoroughly deserved the points.

Former Motors captain Mattie Burke hit a deflected shot from 20 yards but keeper James Coates tipped the ball over to safety on 25 minutes.

Just three minutes later Hyde winger Nathan Arnold hit a powerful low shot from the left edge of the box which crashed against the right-hand post and shortly after Burke grazed the crossbar directly from a corner.

The Motormen had their first decent effort on goal after 37 minutes when Wilson set up Brian Moogan but his low shot from 20 yards failed to trouble keeper Michael Jones.

After the interval Motors looked the better side and pushed forward in search of a much-needed victory.

On the hour Moogan floated in a dangerous corner, which found the head of substitute Karl Noon, but his effort was cleared off the line.

It took until the 76th minute for the breakthrough. Chris Lane launched a long throw into the penalty box which found the feet of Wilson.

He cleverly turned and through a crowd of players rifled home a fine left- foot shot beyond the outstretched Jones.

Noon nearly double Motors’ advantage 10 minutes from time but his left-foot shot from 10 yards out was hit straight at Jones.
