Vauxhall Motors 4 Droylsden 0

THE Motormen raced to a comfortable Easter Monday win over Droylsden – a result which condemned the Bloods to relegation.

Carl Macauley’s side swept into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 39 minutes, courtesy of Ashley Stott’s brace and a goal from Danny Fearnehough.

Tom Rutter completed the rout after the break to leave Vauxhall lodged safely in mid-table as they head into the final five games of the season.

Motors broke the deadlock against Droylsden in the 21st minute with a well worked goal. Winger Craig Mahon beat his man on the right and his cross found Fearnehough in the area. He teed up Stott and the prolific marksman made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball into the corner of the net from eight yards.

The Bloods then had a couple of chances to equalise. On 25 minutes, John Grant held off Conor Roberts-Nurse but his strike from just outside the area was comfortably gathered by Zac Jones. Five minutes later, veteran Lee McEvilly found space in the penalty box but he sliced his effort just wide of the left-hand post.

Motors doubled their advantage on 33 minutes when Stott laid the ball off to Karl Noon, whose defence splitting return pass to Stott allowed the former Bangor striker to rifle home his second of the afternoon past Aaron Ratchford.

Fearnehough made it 3-0 when Mahon dispossessed Jimmy Derbyshire on the right wing and delivered a fine ball into the feet of Stott, whose lay-off allowed Fearnehough to pick his spot from 10 yards.

With the points effectively in the bag, the Motormen took their foot off the pedal in the second half but still controlled the game.

They made it 4-0 after 52 minutes when an unmarked Rutter volleyed home a dangerous corner from Mike Burns.
