Vauxhall Motors 4 Boston United 0

IMPROVING Motors made it back-to-back Blue Square Bet North wins with an emphatic victory over a managerless Boston side low on confidence.

Saturday’s Rivacre Park clash was all over at half-time after Tom Rutter (2), Danny Fearnehough and Ashley Stott gave Carl Macauley’s men a four-goal lead.

Captain Tom Hannigan and Craig Mahon had already gone close before the rampant hosts opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

David Thompson played a clever through ball to Tom Rutter, who turned inside and hit a well-placed 18-yard strike into the corner of the net.

The advantage was doubled two minutes later.

New signing Stott delivered a dangerous cross and Rutter was on hand to head home his seventh goal of the season.

Boston, who sacked boss Jason Lee two days before the game, should have reduced the deficit in the 21st minute but Spencer Weir-Daley headed wide.

They were made to pay in the 25th minute as tricky winger Mahon saw his cross fumbled by Ricky Drury and Fearnehough headed in the rebound.

The fourth and final goal followed in the 38th minute as Stott nodded the ball over the line after a superb 25-yard shot from Chris Noone crashed against the bar.

Vauxhall should have added to their tally after the restart.

Louis Barnes smashed a 72nd-minute penalty against the post while Stott passed up two great opportunities.
