Vauxhall Motors 3 Solihull Moors 3

THERE was no shortage of drama at Rivacre Park on Saturday as Motors came agonisingly close to beating one of Blue Square North’s promotion-chasing teams.

Carl Macauley’s men shared six goals with Solihull who looked to be heading home empty-handed until their leading goalscorer Matt Smith netted a last-gasp equaliser.

The away side, who are chasing a play-off spot, were kept on the back foot for long periods by a Motors side playing some attractive football.

The first goal came after 25 minutes when Solihull winger Ryan Beswick skipped past two lunging challenges from the Motors defence and hit a low drive past Scott Tynan.

Motors hit back just before the interval when Craig Mahon netted on the rebound after Obi Anoruo’s flicked header had been saved.

The match took another twist on 67 minutes when Beswick restored Solihull’s lead, volleying into the roof of the net after Motors failed to clear their lines.

But mid-tableVauxhall remained a threat and they forged into a 3-2 lead. On 67 minutes, a cross by Mahon was headed home by man-of-the-match Tom Hannigan.

Then with three minutes remaining, substitute Leighton McGivern raced through and coolly chipped a shot over Jasbir Singh. But Solihull rescued a point when the unmarked Smith headed in from six yards.

Vauxhall: Tynan, Noone (McGivern 55), Moogan (Roberts 69), Taylor, Hannigan, Mannix, Mahon, Brown (Dames 55), Anoruo, Grice, Grocott. Subs: Wright, Ritchie.

Attendance: 164.

Motors travel to second-placed AFC Telford United on Saturday and host Stalybridge Celtic on Monday. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
