CASTROL Social and Ellesmere Port added insult to injury as they faced two of the three sides pipped to the West Cheshire League title by West Kirby.

After spending the latter half of the season well adrift from the Division One title race, a recent run of form threw West Kirby back into contention and a draw last week sealed their successful defence.

On Saturday, however, Castrol beat one-time title favourites Runcorn Town 2-1, Mike Thelwell and Mark Ryan capitalising on a deflated Town side.

And Upton AA, also low after launching a strong challenge, were kicked while they were down by Ellesmere Por, who beat them at home 2-0, Mark Jones and Mark Price on target.

In Division Two, Grange Athletic remain in danger at the foot of the table after losing 2-1 at Southport Trinity, Danny Duffy’s goal not enough to earn a valuable point.

Capenhurst Villa Reserves suffered a 3-0 reverse at home to Marshalls in Division Three.

Ellesmere Port Reserves, however, managed to earn a point against visiting Pensby.

Sean Johns scored for Port but an equaliser from Pensby’s Mike Hughes saw the points shared as it ended 1-1.
