ONLY one Ellesmere Port side survived Saturday’s Wirral Senior Cup second round.

Welcoming Ashville to Whitby Sports and Social Club, Ellesmere Port booked their place in round three by beating the visitors 3-1. Nathan Mapletoft, Andy Walker and an own goal accounted for their tally.

Castrol Social struggled at Newton and ended up losing 3-0.

Capenhurst Villa fought bravely against a tough West Kirby side and came within touching distance of a reward, just being edged out 2-1 by the home side. Tom McGill netted for Villa.

In West Cheshire League Division One, Vauxhall Motors Reserves ground out a 1-1 draw at home to Upton AA.

Rob Jones hit the target for Motors as both sides cancelled each other out.

Division Two saw another draw, as Grange Athletic tied 3-3 with Mallaby. Chris Yew (2) and Steve Salcedo were on target for Grange but Steve Abbott (2) and Eddie Hutchinson grabbed a point for the travelling side.

Round two of the Division Three Shield offered Capenhurst Villa a chance to progress in the cup, and they took it. They beat visiting Hale 5-3 thanks to strikes from Lee Hammond, Warren Lloyd and an Andy Newlam hat-trick.

In Division Three, Ellesmere Port Reserves lost 2-1 at Southport Trinity Reserves, Simon Brannon on target for Port.

The Ellesmere Port Sunday League was hit by the weather with only two matches going ahead.

Both games were Shell Premier Division fixtures. Castrol Villa lost 4-2 to ITCL Gunners, Damien Waters and Ian Kelly on target for hosts Villa. Sam Davin, Ashley Tew, John Davies and Mark Ford securing the points for the Gunners.

Woodlands also managed to play their match at home to Castrol Nomads. ‘The Woodies’ walked out 7-1 winners thanks to goals from Ryan Nicoll (2), Rob Little (2), Dave Boyle (2) and Ben Sudbury.
