BULL Groves are the champions of the Ellesmere Port Sunday League.

Two wins last week saw unbeaten Groves build an unassailable lead with two Shell Premier games to go.

The title was sealed when Groves followed up a 4-1 win over relegated White Swan on Thursday with a 2-1 win over main rivals Westminster on Sunday. Anthony Ashton and Ian Forster scored for Groves, Ben Powell for Westminster.

Grace were forced to concede defeat in the title race despite their 5-1 win over Castrol Villa.

Jay Keelan (2), James Watson, Mark Tasker and Steve Armitage scored the winning goals. Eddie McDonald grabbed Villa’s consolation.

In Shell Division One, the title race is heating up as Westminster Reserves trail Old Wirral Hundred by a single point with a game in hand.

Wests cut the gap after OWH were held to a 0-0 draw by Hope Farm Rangers. In contrast Wests enjoyed a 4-1 win over Marquis, who could only muster a Lee Crosby goal.

SCFC 94 must settle for third despite John Wainwright and Keith Robinson giving them a 2-1 win over the Knot (Matty Edwards).

Phil Evans scored a hat-trick as Travellers Rest saw off hosts Bull 5-2, Gary Lightfoot and Sean Martin were also on target for Rest. Richard Wilson and Mike Stubbs replied for Bull.

Grace Reserves claimed a 2-0 win over Sir Robert, Mark Knox and Danny Blundell finding the net.
