VAUXHALL Motors expect to have hot prospect Paul Taylor available for their eagerly awaited FA Trophy tie against Burton Albion on Saturday.
Taylor – the subject of a failed £50,000 bid by Chester City last month – has been on trial at Nottingham Forest and scored for their reserve team in a 5-1 win over West Brom on Monday.
Although Motors boss Andy Mutch hopes to welcome his star striker back to the fold for the Burton match, he is resigned to losing him before the January transfer window closes.
Mutch said: “Paul is back and available for selection.
“I hope he goes this month for his sake – although not for mine!
“His future is not here at Motors. He should be playing in the Football League and sooner rather than later. He did really well at Forest and I hope he can get sorted soon.”
There should be a bumper crowd at Rivacre Park for the second-round Trophy tie against Burton, who are managed by former Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and England star Nigel Clough.
The match sees the Brewers, who are currently fourth in the Blue Square Premier, return to the scene of one of their greatest triumphs. In the 2001-02 season, they won the UniBond League by beating second-placed Motors 4-1.
Mutch said: “Nigel Clough has done a great job at Burton. They have gone on and are flying in the Blue Square Premier. It will be a hard game.
“But we have to go out there and work hard against them and we’ll see what happens.”
Motors welcome back Jonathan Egerton and Taylor following one-match suspensions.
Admission this Saturday is £10 for adults, £6 for concessions and £3 for children.
