Fleetwood Town 2 Vauxhall Motors 0

THE Motormen came away from Lancashire empty- handed after a frustrating game on Saturday.

It was Carl Macauley’s visitors who started strongest and the final score could have been very different had they had a little bit of luck.

As early as the first minute, Alan Griffiths had a great chance to give Vauxhall the lead but his effort hit the crossbar and both skipper Ged Brannan and Tom Rooney had shots blocked following the rebound.

Their failure in front of goal, however, helped increase Fleetwood’s confidence.

Warren Beattie shot inches wide of Motors’ right-hand post on 17 minutes but it was two minutes later that Fleetwood broke the deadlock, home debutant Adam Warlow smashing a sweet right-footed volley from 10 yards out which sailed over James Coates into the top corner.

Just after the half-hour mark it was 2-0, Jamie Milligan on the right crossing for Warlow to head home.

Vauxhall tried to get back into the game but were restricted to a couple of long-range efforts.

First, Lee Dames shot from 20 yards but this was comfortable for the Fleetwood keeper Danny Hurst, then on 43 minutes the hard-working Mattie Burke hit a snap shot which was once again saved.

The best chance for Motors fell to Rooney on 85 minutes when he met a Lee Owens cross with his head, but again Hurst was equal to it.
