BARRY Lloyd was the hero for FC Sportsman’s as his extra-time winner knocked The Grace out of the George Williams Memorial Jubilee Challenge Cup.
Simon Thelwell and Mark Tasker ensured the game went into extra time as they scored for Sportsman’s and Grace respectively. But it was Lloyd who had the final word, avoiding the dreaded penalty shoot-out by scoring to send Sportsman’s through.
Westminster got the better of a six-goal cup tie at W&T Glazing. Chris Tew and Jonathan Hayward struck for Glazing but Carl Ngiam, Stewart Carroll, Alan Williams and Jonathan Egerton sent Westminster through.
Bull Wanderers had a smoother ride, beating Travellers Rest 3-0 with goals from Cameron Forster (2) and Tony Bedward.
Hugo Travel Marquis also booked their place in the next round with a 2-0 away win at Wolverham Reserves. Kevin West and Daniel Griffiths were on target.
In the Shell Premier Division, Sutton Villa posted a 5-2 victory at Wolverham. Ian Kelly bagged a hat-trick and Lee McHugh finished things off. Wolverham attempted to get back into the match with two Matt Davies strikes but the game got away from them.
Woodlands tore into LPSC in Shell Division One as the visiting side won 6-1. Peter Boyle (2), Mo Doyle, Carl Armour, Steve Hill and Lee Watts all added to their season’s goal tally in the rout, with Alun Fellows grabbing a consolation for LPSC.
RBL Little Sutton claimed Old Wirral Hundred’s scalp in similar fashion, beating them on home turf 6-1. Mike Urmston struck a phenomenal five for Sutton and Chris Lavery delivered the killer blow. Chris Hawkins hit back with OWH’s only goal.
The Bull’s Jordan Ford bagged a brace in their encounter with Hope Farm Rangers. Mike Spruce, Colin Griffiths and Jamie Cunningham made it five. Danny Hughes and Steve Cate each scored for the travelling side.
Westminster Reserves also scored five but kept a clean sheet as they ran out 5-0 winners against Rivacre. Chris McNeill (2), Paul Boyle, Harry Hampshire and Jay Armstrong did the damage for Westminster.
Sir Robert and Kingkabs ended up sharing the spoils after their 3-3 draw. Two goals for Robert’s Mike Hall were cancelled out by Chris Dargon (2), and Kevin Gardner saw his effort matched by Kingkabs’ Alex Harrison.
