ELLESMERE Port picked up a narrow away victory in the Pyke Cup preliminary round on Saturday.

Richie Feightman’s solitary strike was enough to hand the Port a 1-0 success at West Kirby.

In Division One of the West Cheshire League, basement side Willaston went down 6-2 at home to high-flying Newton. Jamie Gardiner and Ian Cross netted the hosts’ goals.

In Division Two, Capenhurst Villa were edged out at home by New Brighton. Mike Urmston and Andy Crawford netted for Cape in a 3-2 loss.

Division Three action saw Ellesmere Port Reserves fall victim to leaders Mersey Royal. The table-toppers ran out 2-0 winners at Whitby Sports and Social Club, making it eight wins from eight this season.

Basement side Neston Nomads, in contrast, have now lost all eight of their league matches, conceding 36 goals in the process.

Their latest setback saw them lose 5-2 at Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves. The Neston goals went to Kevin Jackson and Thomas Gould.

Goals from Matty Lancashire and Damien McGinnigle saw Capenhurst Villa Reserves notcu up a 2-1 win at New Brighton Reserves.
