ELLESMERE Port remain four points adrift at the bottom of West Cheshire League Division One after they lost 7-0 at home to table-topping Marine Reserves on Saturday.

Capenhurst Villa and Willaston were knocked out of the Haworth & Gallagher Bowl first round.

Villa (Mike Banks) went down 5-1 at home to Maghull Reserves while Willaston (Trevor Worsley) lost 4-2 on penalties at Manor Athletic after the tie ended 1-1.

There were Division Three defeats for Ellesmere Port Reserves (Nick Law) and Capenhurst Reserves, 2-1 and 1-0 at Chester Nomads Reserves and Gateacre respectively, but Neston Nomads (Alex Clare, Nick Jones, Lewis Clark) won 3-1 at home to Hale Reserves.

Ellesmere Port 3rds cruised into the Wirral District FA Junior Cup second round with a 7-1 success at home to Ellesmere Port Town given to them by Matthew Earlam (2), Louis Hughes (2), Mike Barrett, Mitch Bailey and Jamie Ellis.

Whitby Athletic booked their place in the Chester & District League Dee106.3 Cup second round with a 3-2 extra-time win at top-flight rivals Newton Athletic.

Ellesmere Port Town Ladies continued their superb start to Cheshire Women’s League Division One by winning 3-1 at home to Chester City Ladies on Sunday with goals from Kerry Brown and Toni Livens.
