STEVE Flood grabbed the top honours as the Winsford Weaver Mini League reached a climax, writes JOHN STUBBS.

The Grange rod won the match and the series, though the team title went out of the area, to Protack Dry Nets.

Flood was drawn on Red Lion peg 180 and his 20-12-0 did not quite do enough for the Grange team, who finished three points short of Dry Nets.

Completing the frame were Bernie Swift 18-6-0, Jimmy Young 16-9-0 and Timmy Wright 9-4-0.

The Northwich Mini League ends on Saturday, and Lymm Gold would need a wretched performance to be denied the title. They have a 10-point lead over Edgeley Sport and two more over Protack Barlows.

They produced the winner of Saturday's match in Steve Featherstone, who had 20-4-0 of bream and skimmers. Rod Fraser (Edgeley) had 7-11-0, Graham Evans (Pig Flingers) and Clive Ritchie (Warrington) both 6-6-0.

Arthur Kenney won BarntonFrodsham AC's Amanda Lester Cup with Peter Moore and Chris Parry second and third, although none figured in the final match result on the Trent & Mersey Canal: Mark Emmison 2-11-0 (about 90 small roach, perch, skimmers), Alan Forster 1-14-13, Michael Greenwood 1-13-12.

Other Barnton results: Wednesday, Heesom's Pool - Peter Knight 7-0-11, Bob Forster 6-12-11, Terry Middleton 7-9-0; Saturday, Heesom's Pool - Chris Hargadon 9-0-12, Paul Lowe 8-11-0, Steve Furfie 7-4-8.

Winsford Veterans, River Weaver: Sam Walton 6-8-0, Peter Wakefield 4-0-0, Doug Maddock 3-7-0; Meadow Bank Open: Dave Wilson 8-15-0, Steve Lakin 6-15-0, Sam Egerton 5-10-0.

Weaver Fixtures: Winsford - Opens, today (Wednesday) and Saturday, draw Marina 9.30am; Northwich - Mini-League, Saturday, town centre, Vale Royal Locks, 1-40.
