HOCKEY: CHESTER leapfrogged near neighbours Deeside Ramblers in the Division One table with a 5-1 demolition of Doncaster at Upton on Saturday.

The visitors caught Chester on the back foot to take an early lead, but the home team went on to dominate. They plundered five goals with the club's Welsh contingent of Tim Hewson (2) and Jon Painter getting on the scoresheet.

Matt Hyden and Stu Field completed the rout for Chester, who go to Durham tomorrow.

Chester's second string built on the previous week's victory at Mossley Hill by claiming a 1-0 win at Bangor University.

Ed Spencer netted the winning goal on 18 minutes, firing in a sweet shot from the right-hand side after beating two play-ers in a congested D.

Chester's Chris Moulson was man of the match for helping his side win the midfield battle. nChester Ladies took a 2-0 lead at Bradford but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

The visitors opened the scoring with Laura Millar finishing a short corner rebound. Chester's second goal came shortly after half time with an excellent solo goal from skipper Michelle Daltry.

Bradford surged forward in their bid to claim a point in the final 15 minutes, and made it 2-1 from a short corner.

Chester keeper Gemma Ible kept her side ahead with a save from a penalty stroke, but Bradford levelled in the dying minutes.

Chester's seconds beat Whitchurch 6-2 in a friendly with goals from Claire Gledhill (3), Sarah Underhill, Emily Jones and Alex Gill. There was an even bigger win for the free-scoring thirds, who overpowered Oxton 9-0. It was the perfect preparation for tomorrow's home match against leaders Crewe Vagrants (2pm).

Holly Strube opened the scoring and Emma Blair added number two from a tight angle. Centre-forward Clare Martin netted twice and a strike from Christine Warden was deflected in by Emma Blair to give Chester a 5-0 lead at half time. Martin (2), Sarah Mallion and Jane Bills completed the scoring.

* Chester Beavers lost 1-0 to Warwick after conceding a goal in the first minute. In his first Beavers game in centre midfield, man-of-the-match Chris Ormandy made some strong tackles as sweeper.
