FISHING: WILLASTON Red clocked up their fifth victory in a row in Sunday's penultimate match of the Wirral Winter League on the Shropshire Union canal at Calveley, by BRIAN ROBERTS.
Paul Edwards of Ray's Tackle won the day with mainly roach for 6-10-2 ahead of Keith Wilson of Willaston Black who had a brace of 1-0-0 perch and roach for 4-13-10.
Stan Phillips of Dockers Black took 4-4-4, Pat Malloy of Willaston Black had 3-13-8 and Tony Churchill of Willaston Red took 3-10-0.
On the day, Willaston Red won with 40 points followed by Willaston Black (37) and Dockers Black (35).
Overall, Willaston Red have 201 points, Ray's Tackle 160, Dockers Black 146 and Willaston Black 138.
Ellesmere Port's Bill Jones was rewarded with a 4-12-0 rainbow trout at the Meadow Fishery last week.
Dave Randles snr took the honours in Thursday's open match on the Lingmere Fishery as his mixed 36-0-0 bettered Robbie Woods with 31-0-0 and Steve Balsam on 14-0-0.
Robbie Woods stepped up to win their Saturday match with a carp-based 44-0-0 which gave him the edge over Dave Lawrence on 32-8-0 and Ritchie Robinson with 32-6-0.
Despite finishing fourth on the day, Wirral Borough Council AC team slipped to eighth in the Winsford Winter League on the River Weaver. Top weigh-ers were Ken Stuart with a roach-based 2-14-0, Mark Greasley with 1-14-0 and Andy Walsh with 1-11-0.
Mark Greasley of Ellesmere Port won Tarvin Sands AC's Thursday match with a net of skimmers and bits for 6-0-0.
Jamie Kelly, 15, led the field in Saturday's Castrol SAS 'Lads and Dads' contest from the boat Morgan James, taking a 2-4-0 whiting.
Matthew Bailey took second with a 2-0-0 whiting while Jimmy Monaghan and Ryan Bebb shared third place.
The next day, the senior fished from the same boat with Martin Foster top rod with a 4-8-0 bass ahead of Marty Shovelton and Mark Wilkinson.
Chester Tackle Locker have an open match on Saturday on the Shropshire Union canal. The draw is at the Golden Nook at 9am and entry is £10.
