BOWLS: HALTON A finally broke their Frodsham & District Bowls League duck with victory over fellow Division One strugglers Willow Brook A.
At the top, Red Lion A were far too good for Norton Arms A, having five single-figure stars with Ken Whitby and Barry Ellams each winning 21-2.
Defeat at Castle Park A had a silver lining for Pavilions A, who at least did enough to move into second place. Brian Littler triumphed 21-8 for the Park.
Red Lion B were beaten at Pavilions B (Ken Jones 21-8) and lie third - just ahead of Goshawk A who sent visiting Chetwode A packing and have played one match fewer.
Helsby D (Elaine Garner 21-7) were another to taste home success - against Grapes A who also have a game in hand but have dipped into mid-table.
Helsby B (Dave Gibbon 21-7) moved further ahead in Division Two after successfully hosting Tiger's Head B. Egerton dropped further behind, only drawing at home to Goshawk B, and to compound their misery, third-placed Helsby A closed the gap with an impressive win at Subscription A.
Manley A and War Memorial A made home advantage count against Cons Club A and Castle Park B.
Subscription B are the new Division Three leaders. Their triumph at Conservative Club B was mainly due to Bill Fulton's 21-6 card.
Kingsley are second after a home win over War Memorial A (Alf Russell 21-6) while Kingswood B, leaders the previous week, are down to third despite a 21-5 from Graham Donnelly in victory at Crowton. Only six chalks separate the top three.
