MARTIAL ARTS: STAR students have been rewarded for their enthusiasm and commitment to martial arts.

Emily Welch, Yana Radcliffe, Jordan Batho, Ryan Jones and David Firth have been named students of the year for their respective branches of the Fighting Fit Mixed Martial Arts Club across South Cheshire.

Senior instructor Lea Ward said: 'They have been rewarded for their dedication and enthusiasm to martial arts over the past 12 months.

'All of them have shown an excellent attitude to training and have worked very hard to improve. I hope these student-of-the-year awards give them encouragement to continue their good work.'

He added: 'It is nice for kids like these to be so active, in the days when most are stuck to their video console games all the time. Good luck to them.'

Of the Fighting Fit five, Emily and Yana attend the Nantwich club at Church House, Jordan goes to the club at Shavington Village Hall, Ryan attends the Crewe club at Christ Church Hall, and David practices at the Sandbach base at the Literary Institute.

Fighting Fit, a member of the British Association of Mixed Martial Arts, has more than 450 students on the books and also has bases in Staffordshire and Newport.
