ELLESMERE Port slipped to a 4-1 defeat at home to Division One title favourites West Kirby on Saturday.
Despite a spectacular Peter McNulty overhead kick for their goal, Port didn’t have enough to prevent West Kirby walking away with three points.
The defending champions were 2-0 up in the first five minutes, due in part to a couple of goalkeeping errors for Port.
The defending champions also scored through Carl Maughan midway through the half.
Port pulled one back before the break, thanks to McNulty, but Jamie Holmes sealed it for West Kirby two minutes after the restart.
Castrol Social continued their strong start to the season with a victory at Halton.
After losing to Christleton in the curtain-raiser, Castrol hammered New Brighton 5-0 and on Saturday they added the scalp of Halton with a 2-1 win at Sandy Lane.
Simon Thelwell and Stuart Booth were on target for Maurice Doyle’s side, who are looking to improve on last year’s Pyke Cup-winning season.
In Division Two, Alan Locke gave Capenhurst Villa a 1-0 home win over Bronze Social.
Ellesmere Port Reserves were just edged out of the points in Division Three by hosts Runcorn Town Reserves, Alan Richardson and Sean Jones on target for Port.
On Friday, Vauxhall Reserves lost 5-0 at home to Poulton Victoria in Division One.
Grange Athletic also lost in Division Two, leaving Mossley Hill Athletic empty-handed, while in Division Three Capenhurst Villa Reserves lost 2-0 at Pensby.
