VAUXHALL Motors ABC's Matty Fagan signed off from the junior ranks with a skilful win over southpaw Syd Winsom of Woking.

Fighting in the class C final of the 57kg division for the CYP Championship, magic Matty did just enough to win his fight without much difficulty.

The two counter-punchers did not offer much action in the first round at Cafe Royal on Regent Street in London.

Matty finished the round 2-1 up. In the second, Winsom changed his game and tried to put Matty on the back foot but the Vauxhall fighter found it easier to land his counters as a result and Fagan was 5-3 up at the bell.

With Winsom chasing the fight, Fagan turned into the artful dodger, picking his opponent's pocket whenever he felt and maintaining a lead.

Going into the fourth, Fagan led 8-5 but two good combinations landed by Winsom gave him an opportunity to steal the fight. But Fagan is a canny boxer and a backhand just before the bell sealed a 9-7 victory in style.

Fagan's junior career saw him win two Four Nations gold medals, three CYP titles in the A, B and C classes and an ABA junior title.

He now faces the step up to senior level in the new year.
