COMMUNITY SPORT: MORE than 50 sports organisations attended Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council's sports development evening at South Cheshire College.
The event, held in conjunction with the college and the Chronicle, was a huge success with club officials receiving advice and information on a range of subjects, from funding to coaching.
Claire Wilson, the borough's senior development officer for sports and equity, gave a presentation touching on the role of sports development and highlighting the needs for partnership working and the way in which sport and health are linked into the Govern-ment's agenda.
Attendees were then brought up-to-date about plans for an updated sports club directory and the role that is intended to play as the borough attempts to help clubs gain relevant governing-body kite marks.
'We were delighted with how smoothly the event ran and the room was absolutely packed with people of all ages. The purpose was to give advice, help and support to all community clubs in Crewe and Nantwich, and it was encouraging to see so many sports represented - from football to kayaking!'
Plans are already in place for a follow-up evening with details set to be announced during the next few weeks. A grants scheme for sports clubs in Crewe and Nantwich was launched at the sports development evening.
Sports clubs can now claim up to £500 towards costs, club development and extending participation for youngsters.
