MARTIAL ARTS: A THAI boxer from the Port will be the main attraction at an International Prestige match at Chester Racecourse on Sunday.

And Dave Newbrook, chief instructor at Ellesmere Port Thai Boxing Club, will be joined on the under-card by two of his young protegees, Mark Jackson, 16, and eight-year-old Macauley Smith.

Dave, who is the former undefeated professional World Full contact champion, will be fighting in his fifth comeback fight against the Italian champion, after a five-year absence.

He said: 'It's an exciting fight in prospect and if I can win it will put me in with a shot of a title next year.

'My last fight was a farce as my opponent changed at the last minute and I had to fight someone three weights heavier than me.

'It was disappointing, but I want to get back on track and eventually challenge in two different weight categories, which could make me a double world champion.'

Dave, who is currently fighting at welterweight, also teaches at the EPIC leisure centre.

Mark Jackson, from Little Sutton, has a promising record of four wins and one loss and Dave has high hopes for him.

He said: 'Mark lost his last fight against the English champion and so he has been training hard. He is looking to getting back to winning ways on Sunday and pushing for a rematch for the title.'

Dave also has high expectations for his other young fighter, Macauley Smith, who will be involved in a rematch for the inter-club junior title.

This will be his fifth junior fight and he will be hoping to avenge his only previous defeat against the title holder from North Wales.

Dave said: 'Macauley was unlucky last time and I'm sure if he performs to the best of his ability he will be bringing the title home to Ellesmere Port.'

The show will take place in front of more than 1,000 spectators, and tickets are available from Dave on 07862 701691.
