HOCKEY: RUNCORN'S top hockey star has been selected to represent England's full international side in three Test matches next year, writes Robert Hough.
Striker Nicky O'Donnell, from Beechwood, has been named in the squad to take on South Africa in January.
The women's tour will last two weeks from January 2.
The 23-year-old made her debut in the 2-0 defeat by Germany in October this year.
As well as the South Africa trip, Nicky will be travelling to Holland in the new year with club side Hightown Bowdon for the European Club Championships.
She helped Hightown to the treble last year before they merged with Bowdon in the summer.
Nicky told the Weekly News: 'I'm very happy to be called up for the tour.
'I'm hoping I can make an impact and start scoring some goals.'
Nicky is sponsored by TK Equipment and Halton Borough Council and is supported by Fitness First and the Institute of Sport.
The star has been coaching youngsters at her former school - the Heath Science and Technology College.
Pupils have had three sessions and will receive seven more when Nicky returns from South Africa.
