FIFTH place and a personal best were Emily Fisher's reward for her performance at the English Schools' Track and Field Championships in Gateshead.

The West Cheshire AC star threw her javelin in the junior girls section 29.88m to reach the English Schools' standard and AAA grade two.

West Cheshire AC trio Nick Rushton, Aamir Walwyn, and Lauren Hunt also made the trip to the Gateshead Arena to compete in the championships.

Nick posted 24.2s in the junior boys 200m final after qualifying fourth in his semi-final with 23.92s. He also clocked a new best grade-one time of 23.88s in his first-round heat.

Aamir posted a new 200m best and beat Nick's grade-one time with 23.80s in his first-round heat for victory before clocking 23.78s in his semi-final, coming sixth and being narrowly denied a qualifying place in the final as one of the fastest losers.

Nick and Aamir joined forces to represent Cheshire in the sprint relay and helped their county produce an English Schools' standard time of 47.43s.

Lauren Hunt in the senior girls shot managed 10.54m to finish 12th.

Fixtures this weekend include the British Masters Track and Field Champion-ships at Birmingham, on Saturday and the National Junior Track and Field League Mersey Division fourth-round match for Cheshire Tigers at Warrington's Victoria Park on Sunday.
