EMILY Simpson has led Winsford Karate Club to more national success.

The black belt England international scooped double gold by winning the 60kg category at the SKU National Kata Championships at Warrington and then repeating the feat in the black belt open even.

Emily is coached by Dave Warburton, who also saw three juniors take first prizes.

They were: Anthony Robson, nine, under 10s 3rd kyu and above, with Ashley Stafford third in the same category; Sandy Maciver, nine, under 10s girls' 3rd kyu and above and Samantha Simpson - Emily's 11-year-old daughter - 11/12s 3rd kyu and above.

Jack Traynor, 11, was third in the 11/12s boys' black belt competition.

Warburton's classes are held at Woodford Lodge High School on Tuesdays and Thursday for beginners, all stages and advanced and he can be contacted for further details on 01606 554307 or 0790 397 3002.

* Winnington Ju-Jitsu Club hosted and dominated their annual sparring contest.

Five other clubs attended the competition, but they were no match for Winnington, who are coached by Professor Bob Brown.

He saw his charges finish the day with 86pts, 60 ahead of their nearest rivals and with an array of trophies.

Brown can be contacted on 01606 47090 for further details of club activities.
