NETBALL: ELLESMERE Port Dynamos have produced some excellent performances, winning two of their four matches at the National Championships for players with learning disabilities.

Competing at the Manchester Velodrome, it was the second time that the team, sponsored by Shell UK, had taken part in the tournament.

Dynamos were joined by teams from Manchester, Lancashire, Durham and Wales.

The team, who attend the Spider Project, Coronation Centre and West Cheshire College, train every week with specialist coach Carrie Foster.

Their hard work paid off as they netted 14 goals in the event with Ruth Dennis and Mandy Dunne their top scorers.

Allison Lewis, the borough council's active communities officer who accompanied the team, said: 'The girls had a great day. They played exceptionally well against some very good competitors.

'There was only one goal in it in both the games that they lost, resulting in nail-biting finishes. The Dynamos should all be very proud of themselves.

'I'd like to thank Carrie Foster for her commitment to the squad and Cheshire and Wirral NHS Partnership Trust who helped to organise the team.'

The tournament was organised through the England Netball Association and the UK Sports Association for People with Learning Disability, which prepares and supports athletes for training and competition at the highest level their ability allows.
