HALTON and Frodsham Harriers took part in round three of the North West Sportshall League at the Robin Park Centre, Wigan last weekend.

Amy Pearson and Emma Scott, who had won the under 11 girls regional match as part of the Cheshire team in Manchester the week before, began the scoring for the Harriers with a first and second respectively in the two-lap sprint.

In the long jump, Pearson had a best distance of

1.96m to take second in the A section and Emma Pyatt jumped 1.64m for second in the B section.

Pearson was second A with 54 in the speed bounce while Jess Wright was first B with 52 in the speed bounce.

Ashley Pye and James Crosby got the U13 boys off to a flying start, both winning their two-lap races in fine style in 24.1sec and 24.8sec.

Liam Renton won the six-lap A event timed at 83.3, Robert McGeachie came second in the B race in 90.7 and Pye and McGeachie were each placed 3rd in the A and B triple jump, Ashley's best being 5.44m and Robert's 5.08m.

Renton and Crosby each had 3rd places in the long jump - Liam's 1.85m in the A and James' 1.84m in the B.

The speed bounce gave Renton a second victory, scoring 68 in the A with Pye in the B ending on 67.

The boys ended their day on a high, combining to win the relay in 1.40.7sec.

Katie Barker made a welcome return to the U15 girls competition and was second in the two-lap B race with 26.4secs. Nicole Bell won the A race in 24.7sec.

Third A for Charlotte Leiser and second B for Sophie Johnson were the rewards after strong six-lap performances where Leiser ran 90.2 and Johnson 92.1.

Bell and Leiser both competed in the shot put and long jump. Both came fourth in the A and B shot while Bell leapt 2.07m, for third in the A.

Meanwhile, the speed bounce saw Barker take third in the A section with 70.

In the U15 boys competition Nathan Dawson came third in the two-lap A race in 23.9secs.

The six-lap runners were Mark Coman and David Tomalin, each coming first in the separate sections with times of 79.1 and 81.7.

* West Cheshire AC's youngsters placed them clear at the top of the North West Sportshall League competition in a parallel round-three meeting at Cheshire Oaks Leisure Centre, Ellesmere Port.
