SQUASH: CHESTER RUFC has confirmed its status as one of Britain's top clubs by producing two national champions.

Chester's Jon Clark and Nick Gatwood won their respective age groups in the British National Squash Championships at the

SportCity Centre in Manchester.

Clark won the over 35 event, overcoming the challenge of Middlesex Peter Gunther with a 9-5 7-9 9-2 9-7 victory lasting just over 70 minutes.

Clark had come close to winning the championship on numerous occasions before, having been beaten in the finals of both the open and closed championships, so this win was of particular significance to him.

Gatwood was crowed champion in the over 45 section. He saw off Scotland's Alan Thompson 9-5 9-5 9-4 in the final.

Both Clark and Gatward will now lead the England national team in their respective age groups in the Home Internationals.
