ABOUT 100 competitors took part in the inaugural Bolesworth Mountain Bike Duathlon on Sunday.

The event, organised by Chester Triathlon Club in conjunction with Global Bikes and the Bolesworth Estate, was held at the Hales Superbole Mountain Boarding Centre, near Tattenhall.

The glorious sunshine and muddy ground ensured the competitors had ideal conditions for the event.

The duathlon, the Tri club’s first organised off-road event, gave competitors the chance to choose either the shorter novice event or the longer and more technical open race.

The women’s open was won by Claire Sutcliffe (Chester Tri) in 2.13:04.

Chester Tri members also took the top two spots in the women’s novice race, with Sue Ellis grabbing first place (1.34:06) and Val Ornsby (1.36:44) second.

Sebastian Dysart of Triangle Race Team Bianchi won the men’s open race in 1.32:14, the fastest time overall.

James Horman of Liverpool Harriers took the honours in the men’s novice race.
