ROWING: The King's School had two crews at Henley Royal Regatta last week and in the school eights event, The Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup, they were beaten by St Pauls's School.

In the boys' quadruple scull event, the Fawley Cup, King's, after knocking the Upper Thames crew out in their first round on Friday, faced Sydney Rowing Club, Australia, in the quarter-final.

After a strong start, King's led the Australians at the quarter and half-distance markers on this 2,112m course, but the strong, gusty wind that plagued Henley this year tore into both crews and King's, who had only formed at the start of June, proved the more fragile under this test and Sydney won, later losing in the final.
