MOTOR SPORT: CREWE'S race aces Steve Kuenne and Craig Beggs were in action at the first race meeting to be held at Silverstone since this year's British Grand Prix.

The pair saddled up in the New Era Motorcycling Championships while Roger Stockton contested the latest round of the British Super F2 Sidecar Championship.

Both 250cc races were close affairs at the front, with Kuenne winning each on his Dave Sandland TSR-Honda, although by just under a second in the second race!

Beggs, riding a Stylish Windows and Facias/CPS Plastics Honda, had problems on the line and failed to get off the line, leaving himself in 32nd place out of 33 starters! He fought his way through the field with an inspired display to finish just outside the top 10, before improving on this by a few places in the second race.

Meanwhile, Carl Salvage was back in business at the penultimate 'Ace of Aintree' round after competing in the Dutch 250cc national championship event at Assen.

Going into the weekend, he was lying second in the championship and was looking for a good result in the finals to maintain his position.

After disappointing grid draws, it was hard work for Salvage to make the second row for both finals.

A fine start saw him move from seventh on the grid to fourth by the end of lap one and went on to take a credible second place in the 250cc class.

He capped off the day with an excellent third place in the 350/600cc class. With Salvage still in the running for the championship, all eyes are now on the final round on September 20 at the Merseyside circuit.

The day didn't go so well for Crewe's Robert Deavall, who took a tumble in his first race. He was shaken but the bike was left in a mess, and although his team did a valiant job trying to rebuild the bike, it was impossible to get it right in time for any further rides.
